Glee casts Mike’s parents: Meet Mr. and Mrs. Chang!

Tamlyn TomitaLast month, Glee creator Ryan Murphy told the press that he planned on giving more attention to secondary characters in season 3: “I think one of the things that we’re doing for season three is servicing more of the kids,” Murphy said. “I don’t think there’s been enough Amber [Mercedes]. I don’t think here’s been enough Jenna [Tina] or Harry [Mike]. So very early on around episode 3 or 4 we start…”

Well, it seems that Ryan is keeping his promises! Entertainment Weekly announced yesterday that Mike Chang’s parents will be joining the show’s cast! Keong Sim (The Last Airbender) and Tamlyn Tomita (The Joy Luck Club) will play Mr. and Mrs. “I Can Pop and Lock”, and we’ll first see them in the third episode of the season, which airs on October 4.

I’m a huge Mike Chang fan, so I’m super excited to meet his parents – but what about you, gleeks? What do you think Mike’s parents will be like? Which other character’s parents are you hoping to meet this season? Share your thoughts in the comments!

I’m looking forward to meeting Rachel’s dads. There’s so much material there and so much we don’t know about that part of Rachel’s life. I understand she’s a lead character, but I think that’s all the more reason we need to her dads. How much do they know about what Rachel’s been going through these years, and what are their thoughts? What advice are they going to give Rachel as she plans for life after high school? What is their relationship with Shelby?

Completely agreed, Sarah! I want to meet Rachel’s dads most of all…I’ve wanted to meet them since the pilot! I think it’d be ESPECIALLY interesting to introduce them now with Shelby coming back into the picture for sure. Fingers and toes crossed!
