Gwyneth Paltrow and Darren Criss join the list of Glee’s season 2 guest stars

October 4, 2010

It’s no secret that Glee loves guest stars, and in just the two episodes we’ve seen of the second season so far, we’ve already seen stars such as John Stamos, Cheyenne Jackson, and Britney Spears drop on by. Before we reach the end of season 2, we’ll have seen appearances by many more. Here’s the scoop on the two latest guest star announcements:

Gwyneth Paltrow

Ryan Murphy officially confirmed to US Weekly last week that Oscar-winning actress Gwyneth Paltrow will be appearing on Glee this season, likely for two episodes in November. Gwyneth and Ryan previously worked together in 2006’s Running with Scissors, which was directed by Ryan, and the show runner told US that Gwyneth is “a fan of the show.” Ryan, it seems, is also a fan of Gwyneth. In his first teenage dramedy, Popular (1999-2001), the blonde high school cheerleaders all openly idolized Gwyneth and her impeccable sense of style. As for Gwyneth’s role on Glee, Ryan said to US: “She is going to be playing a substitute teacher who Matt Morrison’s character falls for. She will be doing 3 or 4 solos.”

Darren Criss

Actor-singer-songwriter Darren Criss will be making an appearance on this season of Glee, and even though he’s relatively unknown to the viewing public, Darren’s already getting a lot of attention based on the character he’s going to be playing. According to Entertainment Weekly, Darren will be playing Blaine, “a cute and charismatic gay student from a rival Glee club named the Dalton Academy Warblers.” The question is, of course, whether or not Blaine will be the previously announced new boyfriend for Kurt. Or will that be the other recent addition to the show, quarterback and singer Sam (played by Chord Overstreet). Sources say that neither boys have been confirmed as the boyfriend as of yet, but that doesn’t mean the possibility isn’t there.

What do you think of these new casting choices, gleeks? Do you think Gwyneth will be able to carry a tune? And which guy would you prefer to be Kurt’s new boyfriend? Share your thoughts in the comments!

I love Glee! I think Darren Criss should be Kurt’s boyfriend. Chord Overstreet’s character Sam is too cute, hot and sweet to play the boyfriend. I want to see more screen time for him, and to make him a regular cast member. Also, I want Idina Menzel to come back. I’m mad they took away her character! she should guest star as herself.

I want it to be Darren. Sam is too… I don’t know. I just don’t like him. he rubs me the wrong way, and he’s not confident enough for Kurt. Which you’d need to be. Plus, Darren’s Harry Frickin’ Potter, which is totally awesome.
