Overworked Glee cast sends angry letter to Ryan Murphy

May 11, 2010

Not only are they busy filming weekly episodes, but they’re also constantly in dance rehearsals, in the recording studio, preparing for TV appearances, and practicing for the upcoming concert tour. So, really, it was only a matter of time before these overworked actors had finally had enough.

Sources are reporting that the cast of Glee has recently sent an angry letter to showrunner Ryan Murphy, saying that they are being “worked too hard” and that the situation is becoming unbearable. An understandable letter to send, I think, but Ryan’s response to his stars was, unfortunately, more than a little bit dismissive:

“I report to Fox, you report to me, and this is the schedule Fox has set, so I don’t want to hear it.”

Sure, Ryan has the right to be a bit irritated considering that he’s also just following Fox’s orders, but he’s also a mediator between the cast and the network. It seems to me that the cast has a valid complaint, and if Fox wants to keep the success of this show as high as it is, they have to be careful not to burn out their stars too early. I think that Ryan and Fox both need to take this letter into proper consideration, and as much as I love seeing new Glee-related clips almost every day, these actors definitely need to be given more of a break.

But maybe that’s just my opinion. Fellow gleeks, what do you think? How should Ryan and Fox be handling this situation? Share your thoughts in the comments!

maybe we should leave it between the cast, ryan murphy and fox. this thing should be handled professionally and in private.

The cast is definitely the hardest working cast on TV right now and I hope that they do get some well deserved time off to relax and recharge. Having said that, I agree with Cinderella on this. Whatever may or may not be going on should remain between Ryan, the cast, and Fox in private. Just my opinion, but consider the “source” – a FORMER cohort of Ryan’s – which leads me to wonder what his or her agenda is.

Ryan is too dismissive toward his cast. Sure he produces a great show, but it would be nothing without their talent. You can only work people so hard for so long.

You know, it’s none of our business, but coming out my love for Glee and the cast:
Give them a break. We love them dearly, but we want to keep the quality of the show as it is and we want them all to remain happy, healthy, and *with* the show.
